Phind Query

Phind analyzes a phone number searching for mnemonics for the number. These mnemonics are constructed by substituting standard U.S. phone number to letter mappings. Phind can display a collection of different matches as well as individual words that can be found within the number.

Listed below are a collection of tips to help you use Phind more effectively.

  • Phind searches a collection of internal dictionaries to make matches.
  • You can control which dictionaries will be searched.
  • One special dictionary is even editable. You can add or remove words.

Search Tips!

  • Select one or more dictionaries to search.
  • Enter a seven digit phone number (with or without the dash).
  • Phind only searches on the first seven numbers you provide.
  • If Phind produces too many matches, search fewer dictionaries.
  • If Phind produces too few matches, search more dictionaries.
  • Phind presently only uses U.S. phone number to letter mappings.

Add Tips!

  • If Phind does not list words that you expect to see, add them!
  • All users share the editable dictionary. Please be considerate.
  • You can add multiple words at once. Separate words by spaces.

Remove Tips!

  • If Phind lists words that you do not expect to see, remove them.
  • You can only remove words from the editable dictionary.
  • Word matches may come from non-editable dictionaries.
  • Ignore these matches or deselect the dictionary containing them.
  • All users share the editable dictionary. Please be considerate.
  • You can add multiple words at once. Separate words by spaces.

List Tips!

  • You can view one or more dictionaries using the list feature.
  • Select only the dictionaries from which you wish to see words.
  • Enter a string to find only words containing that string of letters.
